“It helped to have a place where I was not only the one holding the bag and the bottle.”
Common Questions
Questions we are asked
Twelve answers about fees, sessions and what to do in a crisis.
Fees
Do you take my insurance?
We are an out-of-network practice and do not bill insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid. Some plans repay part of the cost of out-of-network visits. The fees page explains how.
What is a superbill and how do I use it?
A superbill is a monthly itemized receipt you can send to your plan to ask for reimbursement. It lists a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. Whether your plan pays is its decision, and we cannot promise it will.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what care will cost before you start. We give you one before your first session. It is an estimate and not a contract, and you can dispute a bill that comes in $400 or more above it.
How much does it cost and how do fees work?
Your fee is given to you in writing before your first session and stays the same unless we tell you ahead of time. A limited number of reduced-fee places may be open. The fees page goes through it step by step.
Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Yes. Health savings and flexible spending cards can be used for sessions. Your plan sets its own rules, so check with it if you are unsure.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session. A later cancellation may be charged, up to the fee for the session. We do not charge for a session missed because of a birth, a hospital stay or a sick baby.
Sessions
What happens in the first session?
You and your clinician talk about what is going on in your week, what you would like from sessions, and how privacy works. Nothing is a test, and you decide at the end whether to meet again. The first-session page walks through the hour.
How often and how long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes, or 75 minutes with a partner. Most people come weekly or every other week. Your clinician sets the pace with you, and there is no set number of sessions.
Can my partner come?
Yes. Partners can come on their own, or to some of your sessions. Sessions with a partner are 75 minutes.
Access
Are you licensed where I live?
Our clinicians are licensed in Washington. In-person sessions are in Seattle, and video sessions are for people who are in Washington during the session. If you live elsewhere, we are glad to help you find a clinician licensed where you live.
Crisis
What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time. In an emergency, call 911. The national maternal mental health hotline is also open any hour. We do not monitor calls or messages around the clock.
Privacy
What is confidential and what are the limits?
What you say in sessions is private. The few exceptions are when someone is in immediate danger, when a child or an older adult is being harmed, and when the law requires us to share something. Your clinician explains them in your first session.
