Our story

Why we only work with the perinatal months

Quell began when Dr. Lesley Barlow, a Seattle psychologist, noticed how many pregnant and postpartum clients had waited months to say how they were really doing. She built a practice where the first conversation is easy to begin and the schedule bends around feeds, naps and appointments.

Today Quell is four clinicians who share a focus on the months around a birth and the people who go through them together, partners included. Our name means to calm or soothe, and that is what we hope a session is: a quiet hour in a week that is not.

What we hold to

Three things we keep to

We want a session to feel like the one hour in your week that asks nothing of you.

  • The parent comes first

Sessions are about how you are doing, not only how the baby is.

  • Partners are part of it

The other parent, or the person who loves you, has a place in the work.

  • We know our limits

We do not replace your doctor or midwife. We help you decide what to bring to them.

    Seth W.Partner
  • “The first time I said the thing I was afraid to say, she just nodded and asked what that was like. Nobody hurried me.”
